Sdkfz 251/7 PionierPanzerWagen

If you're blitzkrieging around the battlefield as a German Pionier Troops, Combat Engineers, then you need to do so in relative style.  As well as safety from the errant artillery shrapnel and small arms.  Enter the Sdkfz 251/7.  If you've been following the blog, then you know I started this guy a week or so ago to carry my DAK Specialist Troops around in.  This vehicle includes the assault bridge and will enable me to conduct breaching operations as well as engineer close assaults.

I think I've mentioned before but in GHQ's rules - Engineers get a +3 column shift on the Combat Results Table.  Additionally, in Blitzkrieg Commander (BKC) they get 6 assault dice in close combat.  To put it in perspective, the only thing on the battlefield that gets more assault dice are flame-equipped AFVs...

I may put some twigs under the bridge pieces for show, to conceal the fact that there are no support struts, and frankly, because it seems like something you'd want on your engineering vehicle.

Here are some Sdkz 251 resources for you German halftrack junkies:

Beside the obvious differences between a real  251/7 model, I think it turned out pretty well.  The assault bridge is a hair too big though.

I could have included the door-knocker PAK on there but the MG looked better.  I will use the PAK for something else.

Next to a DAK NCO for scale.  That Engineer symbol on the fender was NOT easy to paint.  My wife laughs when I paint stuff like that because I hold my breath.

Thanks for tuning in.  Now about that Napoleonic or WWII Battle I was promising everyone...

    1. Those Iron Crosses can be very hard to paint! Same with the other detailed stuff on these vehicles. She always gets a kick out of me painting it.

I definitely wouldn't call it work. Now painting Nappies? That's a whole other story :)

  2. Good work again! I like the look of the PAK on these too, but I agree the mg looks better with all the extra equipment.
I look forward to whatever battle report you give, take lots of pictures :D

    1. Ben,
I think I'll make another 251 Halftrack and I'll mount the PAK on it. I think it turned out pretty well. The camo went on a tad thicker than the last few vehicles.

I will most likely play a Napoleonic battle. Stay tuned!
