Music for German Players to Knock out Russian Tanks To

Here is a counter to Eastern Funker's Blog Post "music to knock out German tanks to," which was neat in its own right - but definitely deserves a counter!

His blog post can be found here: http://easternfunker.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/music-for-russian-players-to-knock-german-tanks-out-to-for-any-20th-century-wargaming-or-later/

Here is a great piece of classical music to listen to while playing any WWII Ostfront game.  Some of you may remember this from the beginning of Close Combat III: The Russian Front!

The "spritely" music in between the more aggressive parts I don't particularly care for, but the sets are worth it none-the-less.

enjoy - see link below: Anton Bruckner Symphony #9 Scherzo

  1. Call me a traditionalist but I think I'd prefer Beethoven's "Yorckishe March" or "Der Alte Dessauer" or even Tieke's "Alte Kameraden." Fucik's "Florentiner" might be a little too melancoly for the job.

  2. Nice music Steve! I had not heard that one that I recall. It certainly conveys the urgency suitable for a WW2 tank clash!
THE most dramatic string piece I have heard, I think, is the first movement of the Edgar Elgar cello concerto. It's nearly ten minutes long, but every second is depressing enough for war.
Another favorite is the fourth movement (Farandole) of Georges Bizet's L`Arlesienne suite #2 [Berlin Radio Symphony is the best version].
I'm to easily distracted to listen while I play a game, but always listen while painting. Completely other style, but the Ink Spots, and Burt Bachurach are also unbeatable :D

    1. Thanks, Ben. I like the Farandole! Very appropriate. I'm like you - too easily distracted. I love painting to music. Also enjoy gaming to music but I hate the distraction! Thanks for commenting.
