Spanish Royal Guard Grenadier Battalion

While Spanish in name, these gentlemen are French and are the royal guard of Napoleon's brother, King Joseph.  They are in Battalion strength for Shako and will serve in my "Guards" Brigade of troops for my ever-growing French Shako division.

Been a little slow on the hobby front these days.  Literally everyone in the house has some kind of seasonal sickness, including our little one so that doesn't leave much time for painting.  That and we've been crazy busy at work lately.  I finished out this "Battalion" last week and I think they turned out very nice.

I hope everyone enjoys!  Lots more on the workbench to include my middle eastern and african insurgents, French and Portuguese Artillery Crews, another US Army Ranger Mogadishu squad, a US Army squad in ACUs and some French lights.

I also "started" the British 55th Foot from the AWI last week.  They are my 15mm Musket miniatures and boy do they look nice!  So I have alot of stuff just laying around.  Need to get to that...as soon as I kick this cold.  If anyone has any motivation or inspiration to share, I'm all ears.
Guards Forward!

I love the detail on these HaT troops

The Battalion advances.  Trouble for the Brits and Portuguese on the other side of the hill...

Made use of the different poses as best I could.

Hope everyone likes them.  It was fun painting some alternative colors.  Huzzah!

  1. Nice work Steven. I have the first edition Shako rules and really must give them a try out some time. I'm afraid I get very bored, very quickly reading rule books these days!
    Keep up the good work!

    1. Steve,
I still owe you a play by play. I am very, very happy with the Shako I rules. It is alot of fun. I haven't been as excited about a horse and musket game since I first played Volley and Bayonet.

    2. I'd really appreciate a play by play to give me an idea of how Shako plays. That would be really useful!

      Thanks in advance!

  2. Those are fantastic. I especially like the way you've brought out their faces. Well done!

    1. Thanks, Nick! GW Graveyard earth or scorched brown for a base, leaving a liberal helping of black there as well. then a nice light fleshtone should do nicely.

  3. Very nice! I'll be painting the Joseph Napoleon Regiment using HaT 8095 soon. I still quite like these chunky figures despite HaT's more 'naturalistic' curent sculpting style

    1. Appreciate the comments, Rosbif. HaT's sculpt style is an absolute joy to paint because the raised details are so pronounced.

Have you seen the HaT SYW sculpts? They look terrific! I am seriously thinking of abandoning (selling off) my unpainted 15mm SYW lead in favor of the HaT 1:72 plastics. Cannot believe I'm saying that!

  4. Another good looking unit. Here some motivation:

Vittoria, check out the OB on the V&B page. I've run it more than any other Peninsular battle.

    1. Thank you, Gowan. What are you painting the HaT nappies up for? I thought these gentlemen took the paint rather well!
      Battles to come!
