Fitter Flight, M163 VADS & M901 ITOW FINALLY DONE!

Well I'm happy to report I've finally got the decals slapped on this Cold War heavyweight - the SU-22 Fitter.  This will be dedicated ground-attack for older Cold War games where the Russians are pushing heavy armor over the Inner German Border!

I was also thinking it could serve as a Chinese Fighter-Bomber for some Sino-Soviet fighting in west Asia.

Fitter with Decals!  The squadron insignia is actually from a Battlefront Vietnam M113 kit but I thought it looked like an appropriate Air-To-Ground squadron marker.

Still have to apply some PVA to the decals then spray the matte coat on.

Okay and now onto the ground stuff.  Next up is a pair of M163 Vulcans from Battlefront for "Team Yankee."  Since these guys would have been cross-attached from the SHORAD Battalion, I felt it appropriate to put them in a different paint scheme.  Although I'm not really happy with the patterns, these guys did turn out OK in NATO 3 Color scheme.

Next time the Blue-Tac will be smaller to allow for more shapes.  These guys are all ready for Duck-Hunting at Ken's tomorrow!  Let's hope they bag a Frogfoot!  (or else my M1s are toast!!!)

And last but certainly not least, the unsung heroes of the Anti Tank company.  These M901 ITOWs (Improve TOW Vehicles) are the anti tank meat of my Infantry Battlegroup.  A section of them with Anti Tank 21 I believe.  Anyways they are painted in MERDC to match the rest of the team.

Still haven't detailed them or painted the tracks but you get the general idea.  They will fit right in with the infantry teams.

And the class photo.  2 Tank platoons, 2 Mech platoons, a howitzer platoon, FIST track, M163 VADS ADA, M901 ITOWs, Command Infantry team (if I go the infantry route) all weighing in at an impressive 88 points for Team Yankee and all ready for their big match tomorrow!

Yes the second tank platoon is in NATO green and that's it but I didn't have time to complete the MERDC!

  2. Great looking lot! Oh, how I miss the Vulcan. :'( I remember the last time 2-3 ADA swam one, the soggy hulk had to be recovered from the bottom of lake. :D

    1. Thank you David. Those Battlefront kits are a real joy to put together and paint. Lots of nice detail to keep your eyes entertained!

Ahh yes the "amphibious/not really amphibious" feature! :)

    1. Thanks, Pete. It's a really nice, no-frills kit from Academy (nothing like the Frogfoot). I have 2 more to knock out. I think I'll paint one in silver-metallic and another with green and tan camouflage.

  4. Looking very good - love the camo effects here, really impressive. (I always have to do MERDC...as I never get the colours right for NATO 3 ...dohhhh!)

    1. Thank you sir! Honestly - the Tamiya Sprays (TS-61 and TS-62 NATO Green and NATO Brown) are the best out there. Having worked around all this stuff in many motor pools, I can tell you the Tamiya sprays, while expensive, are legit.

I was really happy with the ITOW MERDC - of course they're the last pair I'm doing!!! Doh!
