I have experimented with single...Many thanks, Norm! I have experimented with single based units for both napoleonic and seven years war troops. Ultimately, I abandoned the napoleonic effort because the majority of my naps are based on 1" square boxes, 4 x to a unit. I didn't want to have to rebase all of them, nor did I want to have 2 x separate armies. The intent was to base a 10mm army purely for commands and colors napoleonic. I'm continuing to plug away at my naps, although on individual stands.

With my 10mm SYW I felt that the project is new enough (ie I have no other 10mm SYW troops painted or based) that I could commit to a project without having multiple, similar armies based differently.

I love the look of the miniature massed regiments on the table and the BMUs are my favorite for the spectacle alone.

For your kallistra hills, I understand the dilemma and the sides hanging off the hills while the unit balances precariously would bug me!

For my hex games I use a now-defunct terrain system called "warzone" which I think was made for 40k. The hills are made wedding cake style and flat at the top and they sit nicely in a 4" hex.

Hey speaking of 1066, any hints or teasers as to when your loyal fans might get to see it? ;)
I have single based, 10mm dark ages and fantasy troops would would love to give it a spin sometime!Disgruntled Fusilierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10995610821904415726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1194255716971534690.post-89343660685217328522020-02-16T06:58:41.937-05:002020-02-16T06:58:41.937-05:00I have tons of lead for both 10mm SYW and 10mm Nap...I have tons of lead for both 10mm SYW and 10mm Napoleonics. Originally my cunning plan was to base all of my 10mm Naps and SYW on single stands but I've abandoned the effort with my napoleonic 10mm and will base them like the rest of their sister units.Disgruntled Fusilierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10995610821904415726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1194255716971534690.post-78331383775912967072020-02-16T02:29:59.792-05:002020-02-16T02:29:59.792-05:00Splendid regiments...and uniforms, most impressive...Splendid regiments...and uniforms, most impressive mass effect!Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08913029478686087197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1194255716971534690.post-2126875660113088162020-02-16T02:16:39.116-05:002020-02-16T02:16:39.116-05:00Sorry - above deleted and reposting as I missed ou...Sorry - above deleted and reposting as I missed out the word ‘base’, so the post looked daft!

The Jersey Blues look lovely, what a nice unit.

I just can’t make up my mind about single base units. It looks right for my 1066 stuff, but as a single block, they don’t always sit well on the Kallistra hex hills, which are quite rounded, so a single base often has one or both ends hanging in the air, while multi-base conforms to the contours better. Road movement and differing formations is another consideration, but with easier work-arounds.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1194255716971534690.post-17281437551966648832020-02-16T02:14:31.654-05:002020-02-16T02:14:31.654-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1194255716971534690.post-70745636032336226442020-02-15T22:56:30.450-05:002020-02-15T22:56:30.450-05:00Single base BMU is my preference for most eras and...Single base BMU is my preference for most eras and scales.
