Soviet God of War and other WIP

Wow it's been a long time since I dusted off the Soviet big 122mm guns that I ordered last winter but with the impending FIRESTORM: PONYRI campaign coming up, they'll be of the utmost importance, serving as a Rifle Corps or Army level fire support asset!

FIRE MISSION!  BATTERY THREE!  CHARGE FIVE!  DEFLECTION ONE NINE TWO ONE ELEVATION ONE FOUR THREE!  FIRE WHEN READY!
Models are Game Models resin castings.  Figures are leftover PSC 15mm Soviet infantry and heavy weapon crews.
Soviet Gunners serving their pieces.

Even more Soviet steel coming up - heavy AT guns and their crews behind the 122mm artillery.

AT gun crews.  The bases are painted and drying now.
Some MERDC Micro-Madness as my Team Yankee / NORTHAG / etc Americans take shape.  These are the second batch - there are many more M60s and M1s waiting on their paint.  Yes, NORTHAG will likely not have American stats, but a guy can dream, can't he?  These guys need their tracks painted and the black gull wings added and they'll be all set.

Speaking of which - sleek M1s waiting for their crack at Ivan and loving their new bases.

Needs flock and he's all set.
and saving the best until last, here are some Work-In-Progress shots of my American WWII infantry.  Most are battlefront with some Peter Pig and Command Decision in for good measure.  This will be 3 full platoons along with a heavy weapon platoon, and AT gun crews.  LOTS of firepower, courtesy of your Uncle Sam and "the Green Machine."

The foreground stands (in a diamond formation) are my rifle teams, counting for 7 guys with M1 Garand rifles in Battlegroup.  Or just Rifle/MG teams in FOW.  The guys in wedge formation in the background are the BAR teams, counting for 5 guys in Battlegroup. Still very much a WIP.
The Americans need their kit and weapons painted, along with gaiters and boots, unit patches and some rank but so far the project is coming along nicely.  Once the infantry is finished I can start on the tanks.

My completed Americans waiting for their comrades to be finished.

Shake a leg, guys!  I smell Germans!
That's all for now!  Gratifying progress so far!

    1. Thank you Jonathan! They are very photogenic figures ive always liked the BF Americans from their earlier days. The hard plastics aren't bad either.

  2. Lovely work, great job with the red god of thunder covering that grid square ! You know also how I love the old MERDOC (having applied it myself to so many real trucks guns and ammo carriers!) Nice work over all!

    1. Thanks Don i knew you'd be commenting!

Unfortunately this is deja-vu as we've seen these figures before!

I ruined them with dullcoat on a humid day then tried to dry brush my way out of it... so i had to redo the whole force.

As Patton said I hate to pay for the same real estate twice but that's how it goes sometimes!

    2. Eh....predictability comes with age lol I do know how you feel about do overs! I just rebased all my 15mm WWI stuff for AQMF and now the rule rewrite is coming out and the new basing is not unlike what I had! It's times like this that I'm happy I don't drink! lol

  5. Dude, fantastic work, and tons of it, to boot! I will never understand what you're doing with so much Soviet artillery in 15mm, but it is incredibly impressive ;) I'm particularly taken with the colors you used on those dogfaces, they look great. And you've mastered MERDC!

    1. Thanks Jack! On one hand - why not? On the other hand, flames of war uses them on the table edge, ostensibly so they can be attacked.

The G.I.s are painted with the vallejo american set colors with dwarf flesh or whatever from citadel for the skin.

The MERDC is a sad story since it's their second time through the paint shop...

    2. Steve,

Why Not? The battlecry of every devoted wargamer! ;)

Yeah, I've always struggled with getting the right color for GIs in the Torch/Sicily/D-Day digs with the jacket and leggings (not like pictures from Italy and southern France, when guys were taking off the jackets, and before they went to the greens), but yours look perfect.

Regarding the MERDC, may have been a sad story getting there, but they ain't sad no more, looking great!

      V/R,
      Jack

    3. Thanks Jack - I'm pretty happy with how those GIs turned out. They'll look good for my upcoming Christmas MEGA GAME (hint) this year.

I appreciate the MERDC comments. I'm happy with how they turned out too. The sad story was i dullcoated them in humid weather and it turned them to sh**. I then tried dry brushing over it which made it even worse. Figured I would just start over.

Thanks for the comments, man. Tune in - more Soviet steel coming up!

    4. Dude, can't wait to hear about/see the MEGA GAME, and surprised, I'm so used to you doing Eastern Front ;)

Regarding dullcoate, I've done that too. I was able to get them better looking (not great, but better) by going and purchasing some glossy spray and hitting them with that, mostly got rid of the frosting from the dullcoate. I just bought this stuff that's supposed to be super flat and it don't care about heat/humidity. It's still super hot in Texas, I'm scared to try it...

    5. Yeah i decided on a campaign for the mega game but it's still a surprise. Suffice to say it will be some place sandy and dry...

Im with you - im terrified to even try this stuff now ive been burned so bad by it in the past. Winter is coming however!!
