Some Sunday Progress: VDV Platoon Finished!

Some progress of sorts today on the painting front folks as last night we finished off the VDV Soviet team stands by applying the camouflage pattern to their uniforms.  These guys are Rebel Mini's Soviet Spetznaz but I'm using them as VDV troopers with the colorful blue beret.  This is the first "finished" painting job for 2017.

Oops - wrong unit!  But Russian Paratroopers none-the-less.
If my gaming pals are generous, they'll let me use these guys as part of the landing force for an "Afgantsy" Air Assault battalion (I bought the Afgantsy Heavy Weapons pack to supplement them - just need to get those fellas painted).  If I'm playing solo, it's SabreSquadron or even modern Crossfire.
That's more like it!

Assaulting a town in NATO's rear area!

M113!  Take it out!
I used the formula from RichardC's "Cold War Hot Hot Hot" blog post "VDV Goodness."  Found Here.

I feel like his colors and instructions really capture the famous, or infamous, VDV battledress.

Command Stand

The whole platoon.
I used different ground cover schemes to denote various squads.  So some have different colored scrub or rock.

Follow on forces have arrived!

Have to finish up some unpainted things laying on my worktable until I can get to starting some other projects.  One of my more ambitious projects is to complete all of my Soviets this year, so I'll need to start basecoating the horde soon.  It would be nice to get a game in today.  Let's see what the rest of the day holds!

And no VDV post would be complete without this guy.  Thanks, Grenzer John!

  2. They would look good on the table. The problem is going to be the minus to movement because of the heels ...

    1. Perhaps, but they permit a morale preroll for all accompanying forces on the table!

    3. LOL Actually, I'd like to see them in the Russian Para rap video. That definitely would give 'me' a morale re-roll :)

  3. They look really great Steve- congrats! Those blue berets really make them very distinctive on the table. Now you need some Mi-8s to get them there!

The Battle of Hameln is getting closer :-)

    1. Thanks Paul. Im going with the Minifigs pewter 10mm ones which, im told, come the closest to 1/144. That of course being my preferred scale of aircraft both fixed and rotary wing.
